Your menstrual cycle is more than your period.
It's a monthly rhythm that affects your energy, mood, creativity and focus. Every phase has its own hormonal pattern, and once you understand it, you can finally stop forcing yourself at the wrong moments.
Here are the four phases, explained in plain language.
Phase 1: Menstruation (day 1–5)
What happens hormonally: Estrogen and progesterone are at their lowest. Your uterus sheds its lining.
How you feel: Tired, inward-focused, in need of rest and quiet.
What works: Calm activities, reflection, journaling, gentle movement. No major decisions or packed schedules.
This is the phase most women resist, because we think we have to push through. But your body is asking very clearly for something different.
Phase 2: Follicular phase (day 6–13)
What happens hormonally: Estrogen rises gradually. A follicle matures in your ovary.
How you feel: Fresher, more optimistic, more energetic. You want to start new things.
What works: Brainstorming, starting new projects, taking risks, being social. Your best creative phase.
This is the moment to launch your most ambitious plans. Your hormones support initiative and curiosity.
Phase 3: Ovulation (day 14–15)
What happens hormonally: Estrogen peaks. An egg is released. Testosterone rises briefly too.
How you feel: Energetic, confident, social, sharp in communication.
What works: Presentations, difficult conversations, networking, negotiating. Your peak moment.
All your energy is at its maximum. If you ever have a big presentation to give, schedule it here.
Phase 4: Luteal phase (day 16 to menstruation)
What happens hormonally: Progesterone rises. If there's no fertilization, both hormones drop again.
How you feel: A need for structure and routine. More critical, more inward-focused. PMS in the last few days.
What works: Detail work, finishing tasks, admin, evaluating. No major choices in the last few days.
This is the phase that's most misunderstood. The heightened critical eye isn't "negative", it's your body helping you evaluate things thoroughly.
What you can do with this
Once you know which phase you're in, you can organize your life differently. Not harder. Not heavier. Just smarter.
- Schedule big meetings in the follicular or ovulation phase
- Build in rest around your period without guilt
- Save detail work for the luteal phase
- Stop comparing yourself to "yesterday"
CycleGlow helps you track this daily. You log your energy, see your phase and understand why today feels the way it does.
No more guesswork. Just understanding what's going on.
